fixed rate and tracker
mortgages

We offer a choice of fixed rate mortgages and tracker rate mortgages. To make your choice as simple as possible, we’ve compared the benefits of each:

Fixed rate mortgages

Your interest rate is fixed for the initial period of the mortgage deal. This means your payments won’t go up or down during this time. This gives you certainty to support monthly budgeting in the fixed period.

Tracker mortgages

Your interest rate is a variable rate that tracks or follows the Bank of England base rate. This means your payments could increase or decrease, however there are no early repayment charges should you wish to change your mortgage or make overpayments.

Whilst designed with the African Diaspora in mind, our lending products may also be suitable for other UK resident customers, including employed, professionals and self-employed borrowers.

Self-employed

We cater for a wide range of self-employed applicants, including those who may  have a more complex income structure.

  • Ideal for business owners, contractors, and freelancers
  • Requires a minimum 2 years of trading, this reduces to 18 months if you have an accountant that can complete a reference
  • Contractors (including those working on a day-rate) can be considered from the start of your contract if you have 2 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Forecasted income, via your accountant, can be considered for eligible borrowers

At Afin Bank, we understand the unique needs of our Diaspora customers looking to get on the property ladder in the UK. That’s why our mortgage solutions are tailored for foreign nationals on a visa with a route to permanent residency, already living and working in the UK.

  • Designed for professionals* holding a recognised qualification
  • You can borrow up to 6.5 times your income if you are 35 years of age or younger, or 5.5 times your income if you are 36 or older
  • Up to 90% loan-to-value** on purchase transactions is available
  • Overpay up to 10% of your mortgage balance outstanding, each year on our fixed rate, products without any penalties or charges

* Afin Professional Criteria 
** Loan-to-value (LTV) is the ratio of your mortgage loan to the value of your property, expressed as a percentage. The lower your LTV, the better your mortgage rate might be.

  • We want to help you find the right mortgage for your needs. The amount you can borrow depends on your financial status, credit history, and an assessment of your income and regular expenses, including household bills, travel, insurance, lifestyle expenses, and child maintenance. We also take into account any unsecured commitments, such as credit cards and loan repayments that have more than four months remaining.

  • Yes. We have a minimum loan amount of £100,000 (or £50,000 for Buy-to-Let).

  • We want to help you find a mortgage term that works for you—so we offer terms of up to 40 years, depending on affordability.

     

    If your mortgage extends into your retirement years, we will need to understand your future retirement income and make sure everything remains affordable for you.

  • Yes, we do.

     

    We’re happy to support foreign nationals living in the UK. To be eligible, you’ll need to have been living in the UK on an eligible visa for at least six months.

     

    Eligible visa/immigration statues include:

    • Indefinite Leave to Remain
    • Professional/Tier 1 & 2 Visas
    • Spouse Visa (for joint applications with a partner or husband)

    If you are not resident in the UK, we support foreign nationals from Ghana, Nigeria, The Gambia, and Sierra Leone who are looking for a Buy-to-Let mortgage.
